What is the position?
As the Business Services Manager (Staff Services Manager I), you lead a team dedicated to supporting the day-to-day operations at the California State Auditor's office. You are responsible for supervising staff performing a wide variety of work including drafting contracts, purchasing goods, working with vendors, and answering phones at our reception desk. When there is a lot to do or someone is out, you are willing to roll up your sleeves and support the team. You are also personally responsible for developing complex analytical work and working collaboratively with other units in the office. You use good judgement to produce high quality work, establish and maintain positive working relationships, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
What will you do?
- Manage office priorities and workload to ensure the team is operating effectively.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, training, and professional development to staff.
- Organize, direct, and evaluate the effectiveness of the business services unit and make changes as necessary.
- Serve as a liaison with management, vendors, and customers.
- Oversee a team responsible for the implementation of the procurement and contract activities for the office.
- Develop, maintain, and implement procurement policies and procedures. Provide technical support, consultation, training, and policy guidance.
- Research, develop, and execute contracts and agreements. Oversee the solicitation and contract award process.
- Provide the expertise needed to resolve difficult contractual or procurement issues and respond to the most complex and sensitive inquiries.
- Oversee a team responsible for the implementation of the facilities and equipment management functions for the office.
- Manage facility maintenance requests and projects, oversee and provide technical expertise on space planning, office design and layout, equipment and furniture needs, repairs, and office move requests.
- Oversee a team responsible for administrative support.
- Ensure adequate coverage of the front desk and high-quality customer service, provide workload assignments, and ensure there is uninterrupted workflow.
